Short answer
Price a vehicle wrap from film and hours. Film = wrapped sq ft × (1 + waste %) × your film cost per sq ft. Labour hours = install hours × installers + design hours, costed at loaded wage plus overhead. Divide the total by (1 − margin). Example assumptions: a 283.3 sq ft van wrap prices at $3,163.19, or $11.17 per sq ft.
- Film to order = wrapped sq ft × (1 + waste %). 283.3 sq ft at an assumed 10% is 311.63 sq ft.
- An assumed $26 wage, 25% burden and $17.50 of overhead make a $50 break-even hour, sold at $83.33.
- Price per sq ft is an output: $15.51 on 30 sq ft of spot graphics, $11.17 on the full wrap.
- Double the install hours on the same sq ft and the price moves from $3,163.19 to $4,663.19.
- A 50 ft roll at 60 in. wide is 250 sq ft. The sedan example needs 255.53.

How to price a vehicle wrap from film and hours
Cost the film by area and the work by hours, add them, then divide by one minus your margin. Square feet drive only the film line; hours drive the rest.
- Film to order = wrapped sq ft × (1 + waste %).
- Film cost = film to order × your cost per sq ft (printed and laminated, or colour-change film off the roll).
- Labour hours = install hours × installers + design hours.
- Break-even per hour = wage × (1 + burden %) + yearly overhead ÷ sellable hours.
- Break-even = film cost + labour hours × break-even per hour.
- Price = break-even ÷ (1 − margin). Price per sq ft = price ÷ wrapped sq ft.
I build pricing maths; I do not wrap vehicles. Every hours figure, film cost and shop cost here is an assumption to replace from your own job records and invoices.
Labour (assumed): $26 an hour plus 25% burden for payroll taxes, workers' compensation and paid time off is $32.50 an hour. The calculator uses one wage for installing and designing.
Overhead (assumed): $61,600 a year for a two-person shop: rent and utilities $30,000, printer and laminator lease $12,000, insurance $6,000, marketing $4,800, software and phone $3,600, bookkeeping and licences $2,800, tools and cleaners $2,400. Per hour that is $61,600 ÷ (2 people × 220 billable days × 8 hours = 3,520 hours) = $17.50. Break-even is $32.50 + $17.50 = $50 an hour. At an assumed 40% margin each hour sells at $50 ÷ 0.60 = $83.33. The overhead and profit calculator guide builds that list line by line.
Vehicle wrap pricing calculator (opens on a 283.3 sq ft van wrap)
Enter wrapped area, film cost per sq ft, waste, hours and your shop costs. It opens on the example below, so it shows $3,163.19.
The area is the listed total for a Dodge Promaster City panel van, 2015 to 2020, in WePrintWraps' Square Footage List (PVO 2020): two sides at 85.5 sq ft each, back 35.1, hood 22.6, roof 54.6. The list says its measurements include a 6 in. bleed, and it has no front-bumper column. Measure the vehicle before you quote.

Check it: 283.3 sq ft × 1.10 = 311.63 sq ft of film, × $2.40 = $747.91. Hours are 18 × 1 + 5 = 23; × $32.50 is $747.50 of labour and × $17.50 is $402.50 of overhead. Break-even is $1,897.91. Divided by 0.60 that is $3,163.19, and ÷ 283.3 sq ft = $11.17 per sq ft.
The $2.40 film cost is not a market price. Use your own media, laminate and ink cost for one printed square foot.
Vehicle wrap price per square foot: spot graphics, partial, three-quarter and full
Price per sq ft is not one number. On the same van and the same shop costs it runs from $15.51 for spot graphics to $11.17 for the full wrap, because small jobs still carry design hours.
| Coverage | Wrapped sq ft | Install + design hours (assumed) | Film cost | Price | Price per sq ft |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Spot graphics: two door logos and rear lettering | 30 (assumed 30 sq ft) | 2 + 2 | $79.20 | $465.33 | $15.51 |
| Partial: both sides | 171 (2 × 85.5) | 9 + 4 | $451.44 | $1,835.73 | $10.74 |
| Three-quarter: sides, back and hood | 228.7 (sides + 35.1 + 22.6) | 14 + 5 | $603.77 | $2,589.61 | $11.32 |
| Full wrap including the roof | 283.3 (listed total) | 18 + 5 | $747.91 | $3,163.19 | $11.17 |
On the spot graphics, hours are 71.6% of break-even and film is the rest. On the full wrap, hours are 60.6%. So the full-wrap rate under-prices small graphics: $11.17 × 30 sq ft = $335.10, a 16.7% margin on a $279.20 break-even where 40% was the target. Quote each coverage level from its own hours.
Vehicle wrap price list by vehicle class: compact car to box truck
Build one row per vehicle class from a measured area and your own timed hours. With the areas below and assumed hours, a full printed wrap runs from $2,483.57 for the compact car to $4,865.96 for the high-roof van.
| Class | Vehicle | Sq ft | Install hours (assumed) | Price | Price per sq ft |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Compact car | Honda Fit 2015-2020 | 204.6 | 14 | $2,483.57 | $12.14 |
| Sedan | Toyota Camry 2018-2020 | 232.3 | 16 | $2,772.12 | $11.93 |
| SUV | Ford Explorer 2020 | 277.3 | 19 | $3,220.12 | $11.61 |
| Pickup | Ford F150 SuperCrew 2018-2020 | 309.7 | 20 | $3,446.01 | $11.13 |
| Cargo van | Ford Transit 148 WB High Roof 2015-2020 | 480.9 | 28 | $4,865.96 | $10.12 |
| Box truck | Assumed flat box, not from the list | 600 | 24 | $5,056.67 | $8.43 |
The first five areas are totals from the WePrintWraps list named above; the box truck area is my assumption. Price per sq ft runs from $8.43 to $12.14. The box truck is lowest because its flat panels were given fewer hours per square foot.

Why a flat per-square-foot rate under-prices complex vehicles
Equal square footage does not mean equal hours. If deep recesses, bumpers, mirrors or rivets double the install time, the price should rise by $1,500 on the example. A flat rate hides that.
Worked example: The same square footage on a harder vehicle: install hours doubled to 36 (assumed inputs)

Film is unchanged at $747.91. Hours go from 23 to 41, so break-even moves from $1,897.91 to $2,797.91. Quote this job at the first van's $11.17 per sq ft and you bill $3,163.19: $365.28 of profit, an 11.5% margin where 40% was the target.
3M's Application: Vehicles instruction bulletin (Revision D, October 2026) shows where the time goes. For film applied in recesses it says "post-heating is required", at a film temperature of 200°F to 225°F, and it says to cut the film at all seams in body panels. Flat panels need neither step.
Two installers halve the time on the vehicle, not the labour hours
| Crew | Hours with the vehicle | Labour hours incl. 5 design | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 installer × 18 hours | 18 | 23 | $3,163.19 |
| 2 installers × 9 hours each | 9 | 23 | $3,163.19 |
| 2 installers × 10 hours each | 10 | 25 | $3,329.85 |
The price holds only if the pair needs no extra hours. One more hour each adds $166.66.
Is 50 ft enough to wrap a car? Roll maths for a colour change
A 50 ft length of 60 in. film is 50 × 5 = 250 sq ft. Compare that with the film-to-order line: on the sedan below it is 255.53 sq ft, so 50 ft falls 5.53 sq ft short at an assumed 10% waste.
3M's Product Bulletin 2080 (November 2023) says Wrap Film Series 2080 is "available in 1.52 m (60 in.) rolls to allow for almost any section of the vehicle to be wrapped without seams". ORAFOL's ORACAL 970RA technical datasheet (05/26) lists a 60 in. width in 30 ft, 75 ft and 150 ft lengths.
Worked example: Colour-change wrap on a sedan: 232.3 sq ft, two installers for 11 hours each, no design time, film at an assumed $2 per sq ft

Film cost per sq ft here is a roll price divided by the roll's area: an assumed $750 for a 75 ft roll ÷ (75 × 5 = 375 sq ft) = $2.00 per sq ft. 255.53 sq ft ÷ 5 ft is 51.1 linear feet, which leaves 23.9 ft of a 75 ft roll.
| Class | Film to order | Linear feet of 60 in. roll | Does 50 ft cover it? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Compact car | 225.06 sq ft | 45 | Yes |
| Sedan | 255.53 sq ft | 51.1 | No |
| SUV | 305.03 sq ft | 61 | No |
Area is a floor: panels cut from a 5 ft width leave offcuts, and the list has no front bumper. Set the waste % from your own cut plans. Buy the whole job at once: 3M's bulletin says film colours vary from lot to lot and to use one lot number for an entire vehicle, and Avery Dennison's SW900 data sheet says one roll should be used per vehicle wherever possible.
Film, surface prep, removal and post-heating: what goes on the quote as hours
Put laminate into the film cost and everything else into hour lines, each priced at hours × $83.33.
| Line | Hours (assumed) | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Remove an old wrap | 6 | $500 |
| Wash, wax removal and solvent wipe | 1.5 | $125 |
Overlaminate. 3M's 2080 bulletin says any printed 2080 film must be covered with an overlaminate. ORAFOL's datasheet says ORACAL 970RA, a cast colour film, does not require one. So a printed wrap carries laminate in its cost per sq ft; a colour change in that film does not.
Surface prep. 3M's vehicle bulletin says all substrates must be considered contaminated and gives the sequence: wash with dish detergent and water, dry, wipe with a solvent-based cleaner, then repeat with 70% isopropyl alcohol and 30% water. It warns that car wax can greatly reduce graphic adhesion. A full detail first is a separate job; the auto detailing pricing guide prices it.
Removal. 3M says 2080 is removable with heat and/or chemicals from most surfaces within the warranty period. Quote removing an older wrap as hours.
How long a wrap lasts. Quote only the maker's figure for the film you install. 3M's bulletin gives 2080 an expected performance life of 8 years, unwarranted, for film on a flat, vertical, outdoor surface in a Northern European climate. ORAFOL lists a maximum life expectancy of 10 years for non-metallic 970RA colours and 5 years for metallic, in its Climate Zone 1 with vertical exposure. Avery Dennison's SW900 data sheet (Revision 20) lists SW900 colours at 10 years vertical and 2 years horizontal in its Zone 1. Hoods and roofs are horizontal.
Deposit, Excel formulas and the markup mistake
Set the deposit at or above the film cost, because printed film cannot go back. On the example van the film is $747.91, which is 23.6% of the $3,163.19 price. A 50% deposit is $1,581.60 and covers it.
Layout: B2 = wrapped sq ft, B3 = film cost per sq ft, B4 = waste %, B5 = install hours per installer, B6 = installers, B7 = design hours, B8 = wage, B9 = burden %, B10 = yearly overhead, B11 = people in the field, B12 = billable days, B13 = margin %.
Film to order (sq ft)

Labour hours
=B5*B6+B7B5 = install hours per installer, B6 = installers, B7 = design hours. Put this in B15.
Break-even

Price and price per sq ft
=ROUND(B16/(1-B13),2)B13 = margin %. Put this in B17; price per sq ft is =ROUND(B17/B2,2).
Linear feet of 60 in. roll
=ROUNDUP(B14/5,0)Divides film to order by a 5 ft roll width. Change 5 if your roll is another width.
The mistake: adding 40% to break-even where you should divide by 0.60. On the example that bills $2,657.08 and keeps 28.57% of the price, $506.11 short on one van. The markup vs margin calculator guide has the conversion chart.

What the price list needs
- Vehicle classes, each with a measured area and timed install hours.
- Coverage levels priced separately: spot, partial, three-quarter, full.
- Removal and prep as hour lines.
- The film by maker and series, with the maker's durability statement.
- Deposit terms.
For jobs outside the wrap bay, the contractor job pricing guide uses the same break-even and margin steps.
Step-by-step: Vehicle Wrap Pricing Calculator: Price a Wrap From Film and Hours
- Measure the wrapped area. Measure each panel you will cover, or check a published square footage list against the vehicle.
- Add waste and cost the film. Film to order = wrapped sq ft × (1 + waste %). Multiply by your cost per sq ft of printed and laminated film.
- Count the labour hours. Install hours × installers, plus design hours.
- Find break-even per hour. Wage × (1 + burden %), plus yearly overhead ÷ sellable hours.
- Add up break-even. Film cost + labour hours × break-even per hour.
- Divide by one minus margin. For a 40% margin divide break-even by 0.60. Price ÷ wrapped sq ft is the per-sq-ft figure.

Frequently asked questions
How do you price a vehicle wrap?
Add film cost to labour hours costed at loaded wage plus overhead, then divide by one minus your margin. On this page's assumptions, a 283.3 sq ft van wrap uses $747.91 of film and 23 hours at $50, breaks even at $1,897.91 and prices at $3,163.19 with a 40% margin.
What is a fair vehicle wrap price per square foot?
There is no single figure, because hours do not scale with area. On one van with assumed shop costs, the computed price is $15.51 per sq ft for 30 sq ft of spot graphics and $11.17 per sq ft for a 283.3 sq ft full wrap.
How much should I charge for a car wrap?
Charge break-even divided by one minus your margin. For an assumed colour change on a 232.3 sq ft sedan, with $511.06 of film and 22 labour hours at $50, break-even is $1,611.06 and the price at 40% is $2,685.10. Replace every input.
Is 50 ft enough to wrap a car?
Sometimes. Fifty feet of 60 in. film is 250 sq ft. A sedan listed at 232.3 sq ft needs 255.53 sq ft at 10% waste, or 51.1 linear feet, so 50 ft is short. A compact car listed at 204.6 sq ft needs 45 ft. Measure your vehicle and set your own waste.
How long will a wrap last on a car?
It depends on the film and the exposure, so quote the maker's figure for the film used. 3M states an expected performance life of 8 years for Wrap Film Series 2080 on a flat, vertical surface, unwarranted. Avery Dennison lists SW900 colours at 10 years vertical and 2 years horizontal in its Zone 1.
How much deposit should a wrap shop take?
At least the film cost, since printed film cannot be returned. In the example the film is $747.91, 23.6% of the $3,163.19 price, so a 50% deposit of $1,581.60 covers it. Deposit rules vary by state; check yours.
Is there a free vehicle wrap pricing calculator?
Yes. The calculator on this page takes wrapped sq ft, film cost, waste, install and design hours, wage, burden, overhead and margin, and returns film to order, break-even, the price and the price per sq ft. No signup.
